Summer Camp Update

Songs
One of the things that we often hear from families is about all the songs.  Quotes like “our child sang all the way home,” and “our kids keep singing camp songs throughout the winter to help them think of summer fun,” are not uncommon.  It is one of the things that we love about camp is all of the singing.  Songs help us to connect to one another, and to certain times in our lives.  Just the other day my wife and I who are trying to downsize all of our junk got into a discussion about getting rid of my 300 plus CD’s.  Since I have had an IPOD I have not bought a CD in over three years, but yet I refuse to get rid of them, they are a part of my history and every CD takes me back to some event or place in my life.  I don’t want to let that go.  So the songs from camp are the same way.  Singing them can put us back into a summer camp frame of mind, they can make us feel warm when it is cold outside, and they can make us feel a part of something even when we may be by ourselves.  Music and camp songs help to connect us.  So keep on singing out there.  Plus, if you or your family would like a copy of our song book please feel free to contact BJ at camp at bj.murray@dmymca.org or call us at camp at 515-432-7558 to receive your free electronic copy.  The tunes may not be included, but your kids will remember, and if you have any budding musicians the chords are available for the guitar songs as well.

Register Now
This summer we were bursting at the seems with full sessions every week (except week 9 which has never filled).  That is why we don’t want you to miss out on this coming summer.  We have had waiting lists for the last four years and based on our pre-registration numbers that is not going to change and if anything we will continue to fill up even faster.  Therefore we are extending the offer of registering before November 1st will get you the 2011 rates to current camp families and members of the YMCA of Greater Des Moines.  That is an average savings of almost $20.  So don’t delay, register now, or you might miss your chance at great summer fun.  2012 specialty camp schedules have been posted on our blog which you can access on our website at www.y-camp.org , or give us a call at 515-432-7558 to register by phone.

Into the Now
Y Camp finally made it into the present and now has its very own Facebook page.  Go online and “Like” us to get regular updates on camp.  It is a great way for us to communicate with you and for you to let us know things too.  We look forward to hearing from you.
