Tipi Program at King Elementary

Wake up!  Recently I was teaching a tipi program at a school just east of the Drake University neighborhood, a very busy and urban part of Des Moines.  There was a surprising diversity of birds around.  While building the tipi I kept pointing out to the students all the different sounds.  One student commented to his teacher, “At first all I heard were the traffic and sirens, but after a while I could actually hear the birds.”  The teacher later commented, “You woke my students up!  They are paying attention to the birds and all the sounds around them.”  Nature is all around us, we just need to be aware and awake or we may pass it by.
